By offering a pavement system that reduces run-off and its pollutants, 9th Avenue
Designs, LLC continues our support of sustainable design. Traditional non-
porous paving such as asphalt, concrete and pavers increase peak run off flows &
volumes, but installing permeable pavements will greatly reduce peak discharge of
surface run-off, which translates to major reductions in flooding downstream and
decreases sediment in the water. By allowing rainwater to seep through a paved
surface, permeable paving naturally cleanses pollutants and recharges ground water
supplies instead of having the water being collected into catch basins and drains.
Research has proven that permeable pavements reduce pollutants such as sediments,
pesticides, chemicals, and heavy metals on average 60% to 80%. Furthermore,
according to the EPA, non point sources of pollutants, like storm water run-off are
the likely the cause of the majority of water pollution today.  The EPA reports that
nearly 40% of America’s surveyed waterways are still too polluted for swimming &
fishing and that 90% of the population lives within 10 miles of these bodies of water.
Doing the right thing for the environment has benefits for municipalities, builders
and homeowners
•        Many types of permeable paving exist. There are many beautiful styles to
choose from. Anymore you do not have to sacrifice beauty to achieve a sustainable
hardscape.
•        Minimizes storm water management issues which in turn simplifies planning
•        Permeable paving saves money because there's no need to install costly water
collection and detention areas such as engineered curb and gutter storm drainage
systems. Catch basins, storm water ponds, curbs, gutters and storm drains can be
eliminated or downsized
•        Eliminating collection and detention areas increases the effective developable
area.
•        Permeable paving can earn points on green certification programs such as
LEED
•        Permeable paving is considered a safer surface that's increased traction and is
less likely to ice over
•        Less chance of erosion
•        A better appearance because permeable pavement eliminates the need for ugly
surface runoff measures
•        Lower maintenance costs because permeable surfaces require fewer repairs
and need to be resurfaced less often
•        More water to the root systems of plants and trees in the vicinity, resulting in
healthier vegetation
We can't solve
problems by using
the same kind of
thinking we used
when we created
them.
